CelluXtreme’s Team – Sabrina, materials developer and laboratory researcher

Sabrina brings her rich expertise for composite manufacturing and testing to our mission of pioneering materials. Her drive to make future composite materials smarter and greener is a perfect fit and instrumental to our growth. In a recent interview, Sabrina shares insights into her journey joining CelluXtreme to develop the Green Leap Composite Materials

Sabrina’s journey into simulating, designing and manufacturing composite materials began at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperate State University in Germany. There she pursued her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering within a dual-study program together with the German Aerospace Centre (DLR). This dual-study program allowed her to connect a theoretical basis with demands from the industry from day one.

”During my time at DLR, I came into contact with composite materials and learned how to combine the advantages of different components to overcome their individual disadvantages. In a sustainable future, we will need smart materials that are used effectively.”

Sabrina continued her education with a master’s degree at Saarland University in Germany and joined CelluXtreme for her master thesis project which was co-supervised by Malin Åkermo form KTH Light Structures Department. In her master’s thesis, Sabrina documented the natural sizing of cellulose with the plastics materials and established sets of material performance data.

“My master’s thesis project combined my interest in composites and my desire to make a positive impact on the environment. Lightweight structures based on composites can replace conventional materials and designs. Composites offer the same performance but are much lighter. Unfortunately, their production requires a lot of energy and the materials are mainly derived from fossil fuels. Natural fibres can offer a more sustainable option.”

Sabrina recently completed her master education (read here of her defense story) and decided to take the offer to continued working at CelluXtreme. We are happy to welcome Sabrina to our team. With her knowledge and experience, she will be very important in making Green Leap Composites that are designed to be functional and sustainable by design.
