CelluXtreme met with French actors leading the way in lightweighting by using composite materials. Jakob talked about ways to save weight in aviation, cars and renewable energy during a trip organised by Business Sweden and the LIGHTer program. Thanks to the welcoming industries, organization team and travel companions!
Lightweighting – enabler and necessity
Lightweighting is needed to transform the transportation industry. We need to reduce carbon emissions from transport. Electrification is key to reduce carbon emissions, but weight is often a limiting factor. Lightweighting is a big topic in automotive and aviation. It’s about getting more range with less weight.
OP Mobility is working on both electrification and lightweighting. Forvia looks at every part of the car to see where weight can be reduced. Actors in the Aerospace Valley work to realize next generation flights. They are pushing lightweighting by using more composite materials. Lightweighting impact is not limited to transportation. The French Institute CEA showed how solar panels can be made lighter to be mounted on more roofs. A large potential for European solar energy production.
Resource Efficiency – the future of lightweighting materials must be green and smart
The industry has a clear view. New materials can and must improve the sustainability situation. Two important paths to develop a circular value chain are recycling composite materials and using biobased materials. Smart design means materials can do more and work better. A multi-functional material serves more than one purpose, what saves money, emissions, and space.
Using reinforcement fibres where they are needed is the most efficient way to make composite materials. Conseil & Technique inspired us with their efficient way of making composite materials. Professors from mechanical engineering inspired by nature’s design principles are designing for purpose.
CelluXtreme’s contribution – sustainable and high-performance composite materials developed in collaboration
CelluXtreme pioneers new composite materials that are customer-designed and made from cellulose materials. Smart, green materials with new a new property space that catches interest by the industry. When we speak of collaboration at CelluXtreme, we go deeper than a traditional seller-buyer relationship. We include our customers in the design process. Currently, we are developing our material for specific applications and are open for co-design in prototyping projects. Reach out to us for getting your sustainable lightweighting journey started.
