Mathias brings engineering ingenuity and craftmanship to our mission of pioneering materials. In a recent interview, Mathias shares his journey joining CelluXtreme for developing the Green Leap composite production plant
Mathias manages CelluXtreme’s production including the capacity up-scaling, and supplies the development with needed tools to run the process. Producing our reinforcement fibres, engineering the next production plant and manufacturing parts for running our operations, Mathias days are seldom alike. It’s a good fit for his natural talent to seamlessly move between sprint developments and constant production runs.
“It is very much the challenge of overcoming difficulties in creating materials from biobased building blocks that I like to solve”, says Mathias on his driver. “Unlocking the manufactuing of nature’s base materials at large scale will be the needed game changer in bio-based performance material supply for everydays use. Paper and board manufacturing operation is a great example, but it has the benefit of century long development work. Our challenge is to achieve production scale for nanomaterials manufacturing in a shorter time period”.
Mathias journey to scaling experiments from the lab to real world applications started at KTH and the Wallenberg Wood Science Centre, where he studied alongside CelluXtreme founder Karl Håkansson and co-invented the spinning technology. He then continued his research at University of British Columbia in Vancouver, before returning to Sweden for working with the development of material concept based on artificial spider silk at Spiber Technologies.
“My early interest was in implementing technology to increase the societal use from, and the value creation of natural resources. Having made impact for Spiber, I loved to take up a new challenge for up-scaling the nanocellulose-based fibre production, first at KTH’s research team and now at CelluXtreme. It is inspiring to be involved from the beginning in building a company”.
At CelluXtreme, we are happy for Mathias joining our mission of pioneering materials. His extensive experience for engineering operations to manufacture materials from biobased nanomaterials, and dedication to overcome production challenges are a pillar for our growth.
